What does it mean that God is eternal?
Here's the answer:
Eternal is a word that means "lasting forever; without a beginning or an end." When we say that God is eternal, we mean that He doesn’t have a beginning and He will never end.
We aren’t like God, so it’s hard for us to understand what it means to not have a beginning or an end. We only know how time works for us: We’re born, we live, and then we die. But God was never born. He has always been there! And God won’t die either. He will be here forever and ever.
If we believe in Jesus and choose to follow Him, God has promised that He will give us eternal life in heaven after we die here on earth. We’ll still have a beginning, because we aren’t like God, but we will live with Him forever and ever. That’s something to look forward to!
"How great God is! We’ll never completely understand him. We’ll never find out how long he has lived" (Job 36:26).
"But LORD, you are seated on your throne forever. Your fame will continue for all time to come" (Psalm 102:12).
"God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life" (John 3:16).
