What does the Bible say about following your dreams?

Here's the answer:

Spend time thinking about what God wants for you and not just what you want for yourself.

Most young people have dreams and plans for the future. You might dream about what you want to be when you grow up, where you'd like to travel, or the kind of person you'd like to marry someday. Did you know that before you were even born, God planned how many days you would live (Psalm 139:16)? He knows everything about you, including your dreams and plans.

Sometimes the dreams we have for our lives line up with what God wants for us, but sometimes He might have something completely different in mind. But because God knows everything (past, present, and future), we can trust His plans. Romans 12:2 says, "Don’t live the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect." Did you catch that? God's plan is perfect, and we can't come up with something better than perfect!

So how do we make sure our dreams line up with what God wants? Psalm 37:4 says, "Find your delight in the LORD. Then he will give you everything your heart really wants." The key here is finding delight in God (worshiping Him, enjoying time with Him in prayer, and reading the Bible). Then the things your heart wants will naturally start to line up with the things He wants for you, as you get to know Him better and let Him change your heart. Trust God and ask Him to show you what His dreams for you are.
