What are demons?

Here's the answer:

Demons are fallen angels.

Demons are angels who turned against God. Revelation 12:9 says, "The great dragon was thrown down to the earth, and his angels with him. The dragon is that old serpent called the devil, or Satan. He leads the whole world astray." Some angels joined Satan when he turned against God. Because of this, the demons had to leave heaven.

Some demons try to stop God’s plans on earth. Ephesians 6:12 teaches, "Our fight is not against human beings. It is against the rulers, the authorities and the powers of this dark world. It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly world." We don’t have to be afraid of demons. When we believe in Jesus, His Spirit lives in us. He is much stronger than any demon.

Some day, God will send all demons to eternal punishment (Matthew 8:29). Revelation 20:10 says Satan and those with him will be sent into a lake of fire. We will never have to worry about them again.
