The Bible says to fear God. Does that mean we’re supposed to be scared of God?

Here's the answer:

We should have respect for God and obey Him. We are not to be scared of God.

Our love for God and God’s love for us shouldn’t cause us to forget who He is. The Bible tells us that God loves us and that we can be friends of God through Jesus. But does that mean we can treat Him however we want?

The Bible says we make wiser choices when we "fear God" (Proverbs 9:10). To fear God doesn’t mean we’re afraid, but that we show Him respect and remember who He is. We don’t keep living our own way, but we live the way that God has taught us in His Word. Wisdom comes from reading the Bible and doing what it says.

So to fear God is to remember His plans are best. That means we shouldn’t get angry when He doesn’t do something the way we want, or choose to sin on purpose and say that God will just forgive us later. We should care every day about loving God, and remembering that He is our Creator and our Savior. Don’t ask for your way, but for His way.
