How do I know when the Holy Spirit is guiding me?

Here's the answer:

The Holy Spirit helps Christians in many different ways.

The Holy Spirit comes into a person’s life when he or she believes in and chooses to follow Jesus. He teaches, comforts, and guides us. Before Jesus went back to heaven after His resurrection, Jesus told His disciples that even though He must leave them He would send the Holy Spirit (John 14:16–17). This Spirit continues to guide and direct believers even today.

The Holy Spirit inspired the men who wrote the Bible so it really is God’s Word—so the best way we can know we are being guided by God’s Holy Spirit is to be guided by God’s words in the Bible. This means we should read the Bible, hang out with other Christians so we can ask questions and understand the Bible better, and start to live like Christians as we allow God’s Words to change and guide our lives. This how we really put it all into practice.

As we follow Jesus and obey His commands, we start to produce fruit (evidence that the Spirit is working in us) so others can see it. "But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself. There is no law against things of that kind" (Galatians 5:22–23).

Bible Truth

"But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13a).

"Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God" (Romans 8:14).

"Above all, here is what you must understand. No prophecy in Scripture ever came from a prophet’s own understanding. It never came simply because a prophet wanted it to. Instead, the Holy Spirit guided the prophets as they spoke. So prophecy comes from God" (2 Peter 1:20–21).
