How do I hear from God? How do I know if I’m just hearing my own thoughts?
Here's the answer:
You can hear from God by reading the Bible.
In the Old Testament, God spoke to people through prophets. God doesn’t speak to us through prophets today because we can hear from God by reading the Bible.
When we want to hear from God, we can pray and He will direct us. Our own thoughts can trick us sometimes, so it is important to remember that God will never tempt us to do wrong. Everything God says lines up with the Bible.
It is very important for us to take time to read the Bible and meditate on it. The Bible is how God communicates with us today. If you want to hear from God, you need to read your Bible. The more you read the Bible, the better you will be able to discern God’s voice from your own thoughts.
Bible Truth
"God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
"But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one whom God appointed to receive all things. God also made everything through him" (Hebrews 1:2).
"I spend time thinking about your rules. I consider how you want me to live. I take delight in your orders. I won’t fail to obey your word" (Psalm 119:15-16).
