My art teacher says I’m a perfectionist. Is that bad?
Here's the answer:
Being a perfectionist can be difficult because no one can be perfect. Only God is perfect.
A lot of people struggle with perfectionism. It causes a person to feel like they have to get everything exactly right. If everything is not exactly right, it can cause the person to feel a bad sense of stress and anxiety. Being a perfectionist is simply impossible because nobody can be perfect. Only God is perfect.
Every single person has fallen short. We all sin (Romans 3:23). As much as we can try, perfection is not attainable. We will only be made perfect when we are with Christ. If you feel like you have perfectionistic traits, you can ask God for help. God made you just the way He wanted you to be. You don’t have to strive after unattainable goals because God accepts you as you are.
Perfectionism can be a difficult cycle if we don’t stop ourselves from falling into its grip. Perfectionism makes us believe that we cannot move on from a task until it is “perfect.” No matter how hard we try, we cannot be perfect. In the same way, no matter how many times we try to perfect a piece of art for art class, it will not be completely perfect. This shouldn’t make you feel discouraged. We encourage you to do your best and let the rest go.
Bible Truth
"God began a good work in you. And I am sure that he will carry it on until it is completed. That will be on the day Christ Jesus returns" (Philippians 1:6).
"Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God’s glory" (Romans 3:23).
