Is it wrong to say OMG?

Here's the answer:

It is best to avoid saying OMG.

Saying “OMG” is short for saying "Oh my God" and is often meant as a form of disrespect to God. The Bible tells us we are to honor God’s name instead of using it in vain (Exodus 20:7).

Our words are powerful. Even though many people believe words don’t mean anything, they do. The Bible tells us we are to honor God with our words and in our actions (Colossians 3:17). God’s name should be spoken of with honor, praise, and awe. It represents who He is. When we take God’s name in vain, we treat His pure character with disrespect.

This means we should honor God with our words. When we are surprised, there are better options to say than OMG.

Bible Truth

"Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will find guilty anyone who misuses his name" (Exodus 20:7). "Do everything you say or do in the name of the Lord Jesus. Always give thanks to God the Father through Christ" (Colossians 3:17).

"With our tongues we praise our Lord and Father. With our tongues we curse people. We do it even though people have been created to be like God. Praise and cursing come out of the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, it shouldn’t be this way" (James 3:9-10).
