Is it wrong to tell jokes?
Here's the answer:
Telling jokes is not wrong as long as they are kind and not hurtful.
Everybody likes to hear a good joke! Good, wholesome jokes are good to share, but we should never share bad jokes. Bad jokes are ones that are mean, hateful, or insulting. These types of jokes are wrong because they can hurt someone’s feelings.
The Bible tells us our words should build others up and not tear them down (Ephesians 4:29). This includes jokes. We need to carefully guard what comes out of our mouths. If you wonder if a joke is a good joke or a bad joke, it is wise to ask an adult you trust. They can help you know whether the joke is ok to tell.
Bible Truth
"Let us stop judging one another. Instead, decide not to put anything in the way of a brother or sister. Don’t put anything in their way that would make them trip and fall" (Romans 14:13).
"Your tongue has the power of life and death. Those who love to talk will eat the fruit of their words" (Proverbs 18:21).
"Don’t let any evil talk come out of your mouths. Say only what will help to build others up and meet their needs. Then what you say will help those who listen" (Ephesians 4:29).
