Is Satan real?
Here's the answer:
Yes, Satan is very real.
Satan (also called the devil) used to be an angel, named Lucifer, who served God. He was very beautiful and powerful. But one day, Lucifer decided that he wanted to make himself as great as God. The Bible says, "You [Lucifer] said in your heart, 'I will go up to heaven. I’ll raise my throne above the stars of God...I’ll make myself like the Most High God'" (Isaiah 14:12a, 14b). But no one can be like God!
Lucifer was very prideful, and he sinned by trying to be like God. Many other angels tried to follow Lucifer, but God was much more powerful than they were. Because of their sin, Lucifer and his followers were cursed and thrown down from heaven. Now, Lucifer is known as Satan, and he is God’s great enemy. Satan was the one who made himself look like the serpent that tempted Adam and Eve to sin (Genesis 3), and he is still in the world today, trying to keep people from coming to know God. Satan has put many temptations in the world to get people to sin.
The good news is that Satan will never win against God! The Bible tells us that one day, Satan will be locked in hell forever (Revelation 20:10). And Satan wasn’t able to keep Jesus from dying on the cross for our sin.
If you are part of God’s family, you don’t need to be afraid of Satan. He is our enemy and he wants us to disobey God, but he has no real power over those who believe in Jesus. If you want to know how to become part of God’s family, click here.
Bible Truth
"Control yourselves. Be on your guard. Your enemy the devil is like a roaring lion. He prowls around looking for someone to chew up and swallow" (1 Peter 5:8).
"Put on all of God’s armor. Then you can stand firm against the devil’s evil plans...Put the belt of truth around your waist. Put the armor of godliness on your chest. Wear on your feet what will prepare you to tell the good news of peace. Also, pick up the shield of faith. With it you can put out all of the flaming arrows of the evil one. Put on the helmet of salvation. And take the sword of the Holy Spirit. The sword is God’s word" (Ephesians 6:11, 14–17).
