What are the keys to resisting temptation?
Here's the answer:
Reading the Bible, praying to God, and being led by the Holy Spirit will help you resist temptation.
Temptations are very hard to overcome. The good thing is that God doesn’t leave you alone in your temptations. He gives you many keys to resisting temptation.
The first key to resisting temptation is reading the Bible. The Bible is the true Word of God. It will help you learn more about God and how to stand strong in the face of temptation.
The second key to resisting temptation is praying to God. If you ask God to help you resist temptation, He will. God knows we are not strong enough on our own. He delights in strengthening us. Jesus taught His disciples to pray that they would not be led into temptation (Matthew 6:13). You can pray for this too. You can ask God to help you overcome temptation.
- The Holy Spirit also helps you resist temptation. From the moment you became a Christian, the Holy Spirit has lived inside you. He can help you overcome temptation. The Holy Spirit will help bring Bible passages to mind when you are tempted. Satan will try to tempt you in many ways, but you do not have to give in. The Holy Spirit will help you stand firm amidst temptation.
"Finally, let the Lord make you strong. Depend on his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor. Then you can remain strong against the devil’s evil plans" (Ephesians 6:10).
"We have a high priest who can feel it when we are weak and hurting. We have a high priest who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. But he did not sin" (Hebrews 4:15).
"You are tempted in the same way all other human beings are. God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted any more than you can take. But when you are tempted, God will give you a way out. Then you will be able to deal with it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
