What does it mean to be worldly?

Here's the answer:

Being worldly means you live according to the world rather than according to the Bible.

This is dangerous because the world is polluted by sin. For example, a person who is worldly might make fun of someone and laugh at them. A person who is godly will treat the person with kindness and love. As Christians, we need to live in accordance with God's Word. This means we need to follow what God tells us in the Bible rather than what the world tells us. The world will tell us many lies, but God only tells the truth.

Being worldly is the opposite of living a godly life. When a person is worldly, they are listening to their sinful nature, rather than God. The “wisdom” the world has is in direct conflict with the Bible (1 Corinthians 3:18-19).

The Bible tells us we cannot be friends with the world and friends with God (1 John 2:15-17). In fact, the Bible tells us we are an enemy of God if we are friends with the world (James 4:4). As Christians, our friendship lies with God and not with the world.

Bible Truth

"You are not faithful to God. Don’t you know that to be a friend of the world is to hate God? So anyone who chooses to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy" (James 4:4).

"We know that we are children of God. We know that the whole world is under the control of the evil one" (1 John 5:19).

"Do not love the world or anything in it. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. Here is what people who belong to this world do. They try to satisfy what their sinful desires want to do. They long for what their sinful eyes look at. They take pride in what they have and what they do. All of this comes from the world. None of it comes from the Father. The world and its evil desires are passing away. But whoever does what God wants them to do lives forever" (1 John 2:15-17).
