What sort of New Year’s resolutions can I make?

Here's the answer:

You don't have to make New Year's resolutions, but if you want to, you can focus on resolutions that will bring you closer to God.

New Year's is a common time for people to come up with New Year's resolutions, or goals for the new year. A few popular ones are to lose weight, to earn more money, or to spend more time with loved ones. While all of these things can be good, we need to focus more on the spiritual, rather than the physical (1 Timothy 4:8). By focusing more on God, we will be able to grow in our walk with Him and strengthen our faith in Him.

You might hear friends at church say their New Year's resolutions are to pray more, read the Bible every day, or go to church more often. These things are great, but maybe they are not right for you . It could be you are already doing all of these things, and you want to stretch your faith to become stronger. If you are not sure where God is leading you for the new year, turn to Him and seek out His wise counsel.

You can do this by praying to Him, asking Him for wisdom, asking Him to reveal any goals He wants you to make, asking Him to help you fulfill these goals by His strength, and asking for His help not to become discouraged if you don't succeed the first time. Ask Him to also help you to be motivated, but not to become vain or proud. Always give God the glory and continue to be humbled under His mighty hand (Proverbs 3:5–6). God will hear your prayers and help guide you into which resolutions you should make this year.
