What does it mean that God is omnipotent?
Here's the answer:
God is all-powerful. He has the power over sin and death.
When we think about something that is powerful, or big and strong, we might think of things here on earth. We might think of a hurricane, a lion, an elephant, or even our dads. All these things are powerful, but there is Someone who is way more powerful—God! Job 37:23 says, “We can’t reach up to the Mighty One [God]. He is lifted high because of his power…” God has all the power, and He can do anything. This is what we mean when we say God is omnipotent.
God has shown His power to us in the things He has done. He created the whole universe and everything in it. No one else could do that! He hears and answers the prayers of everyone in the world. No one else could do that either! And there isn’t a single person on Earth who can heal sick people like God does.
Because God is omnipotent, He has the power over sin and death. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. Then God’s power raised Jesus from the dead, so that everyone who believes in Him can one day live with Him in heaven.
Isn’t God’s power amazing?
