What does it mean that Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44)?

Here's the answer:

No, the Bible is no longer being written.

John 8:44 says, "You belong to your father, the devil. You want to obey your father’s wishes. From the beginning, the devil was a murderer. He has never obeyed the truth. There is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his natural language. He does this because he is a liar. He is the father of lies."

The Bible tells us that Satan is the original liar because he told the first lie. Satan told Eve that she would not die if she ate the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3:4). Satan was lying to her because God had just told Adam and Eve they would die if they ate the forbidden fruit. Since Adam and Eve believed Satan’s lie and acted on it, it caused the fall of man, separation from God, and death. Telling and believing lies lead to bad things.

Since Satan is the father of lies, he likes to use lies to separate us from God. His favorite lies are "God is not real" and "God doesn’t love you." Both of these lies are completely untrue because God is real and He does love everyone. We should not listen or believe Satan’s lies.

As Christians, we are not to lie because lying is wrong (Colossians 3:9). When we lie, we are disobeying God. Whether we tell a small lie or a big lie, it is still wrong. The Bible tells us that all liars will be destroyed (Revelation 21:8) unless they repent and turn to Jesus. Instead of telling and listening to lies, we need to be honest and turn to Jesus. Jesus will never lie to us because He is the Truth and He sets us free (John 14:6; 8:32).
