Is Satan in hell?
Here's the answer:
No, Satan does not live in hell yet.
We often make the mistake of thinking that Satan lives in hell right now. He is usually shown in cartoons and artwork as living in a place filled with fire. But that's not where he lives right now.
God created hell, and one day He will send Satan there for all eternity to punish Satan for all the evil he has done. But for now, Satan lives here on the earth. He wants to keep as many people as possible from following Jesus. The Bible says Satan is "like a roaring lion. He prowls around [the earth] looking for someone to chew up and swallow" (1 Peter 5:8). We can’t see Satan or his helpers, the demons, but they are living in the world trying to trick people into following Satan and doing evil.
The good news is that everyone who believes in and follows Jesus is protected from Satan! He doesn't have any power over those who are in God's family. He still tries to trick us and tempt us to do wrong, but God has given us the tools we need to triumph over Satan (see Ephesians 6:10–17). If you want to know more about following Jesus, click here.
Jesus will one day return, and Satan and all his demons will be defeated and thrown into hell to be punished forever. But until then, he lives here on the earth, doing as much evil as he can.
