I think I’m too self-conscious and insecure. What can I do?

Here's the answer:

When you feel self-conscious and insecure, choose to focus on who God says you are.

Being self-conscious is very common, even in kids. As you get older, you might find you become even more self-conscious. Being self-conscious is caused by having a strong awareness of what others think about you. While we should always practice good manners and present ourselves in a nice way, we do not need to become hyper fixated on our appearance or on what others think of us.

When you are overly aware of your appearance, it may cause you to feel bad about yourself or make you feel as though everyone is thinking badly of you. You may be tempted to compare yourself with others. When you feel you are being too self-conscious and insecure, you need to turn the focus away from yourself. Choose to focus on Jesus instead (Hebrews 12:2).

At the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of you. The Holy Spirit is the One who makes you new and can help redirect your focus (2 Corinthians 5:17). Ask Him to help you in this area and allow Him to help you focus on God. He can help you with your feelings of self-consciousness and insecurity.

Remember, as a child of God…

• You have a new identity. You are truly a new person in Christ.
• You have been born again. You have been redeemed.
• You have been forgiven.
• You are loved.

Bible Truth

"Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2).

"I have been crucified with Christ. I don’t live any longer, but Christ lives in me. Now I live my life in my body by faith in the Son of God. He loved me and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).

"So eat and drink and do everything else for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).
