What is goodness? Why is it a fruit of the Spirit?
Here's the answer:
Goodness is a fruit of the Spirit. Goodness has to do with the way we act and treat people. A person who shows goodness chooses to do the right thing and also chooses to treat others in the best way.
Every Christian has the Holy Spirit in his or her life, and the Holy Spirit helps each person to want to do the right thing. When you make a good choice instead of a bad choice, you’re obeying God and practicing goodness. It’s not always easy, so be ready to pray and ask God to help you obey Him.
You can also show goodness in your relationships with other people. When you choose to do something that will help something else, that’s goodness. Some of these helpful things might including giving the bigger cookie to your friend instead of keeping it for yourself, or sharing your video games with your brother or sister without complaining, helping a friend clean his room, and more. You can even show goodness by being nice to people who are unkind to you, and by praying for them.
No one is truly good, since we all have a sin nature (a natural desire to sin). But since those who believe in Jesus have the Holy Spirit, we have the help we need to become more like Jesus every day. As you continue to follow the Lord and have a close relationship with Him, people will see the goodness in your life more and more.
