What is grief?

Here's the answer:

Grief is a strong emotion that is caused by the death of a loved one, a pet, or a friendship.

Most of the time we think of grief as only being connected to someone passing away. While grief can be connected to someone passing away, it can also be connected with the death of a dream, the death of a pet, or the death of a friendship. All of these things can make us feel grief. Grief is a powerful emotion that makes us feel very sad.

People handle grief very differently. Some people move past grief quickly, while others have a longer journey. Grief is nothing to be ashamed of. When you are feeling grief, it is important to turn to God. He can mend your broken heart and heal your wounds (Psalm 34:18). Go to Him in prayer and read His Word. With God, you will be able to have the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:6-7).

You can also turn to fellow Christians when you are grieving. They will be able to be a source of help and healing. Through turning to God in prayer, listening to Him in His Word, and connecting with other Christians, you will begin to feel better. Grief is not determined by a timeline, so don’t get frustrated with yourself if it takes a while before you feel better. One day, there will be no more pain, crying, or death (Revelation 21:4).

Bible Truth

"The LORD is close to those whose hearts have been broken. He saves those whose spirits have been crushed" (Psalm 34:18).

"Brothers and sisters, we want you to know what happens to those who die. We don’t want you to mourn, as other people do. They mourn because they don’t have any hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again. When he returns, many who believe in him will have died already. We believe that God will bring them back with Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14).

"The Lamb, who is at the center of the area around the throne, will be their shepherd. 'He will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes'" (Revelation 7:17).
