I'm a Christian, so why do bad things still happen to me?
Here's the answer:
Christians and unbelievers, alike, have bad things happen to them because of sin.
Ever since Adam and Eve first sinned, sin has infected everybody and everything in our world.
Unbelievers are slaves to their sin. Christians, though, have power over sin through the Holy Spirit. Yet Christians still struggle with sin every day and continue to sin from time to time. This means all people are capable of doing bad things that hurt themselves and other people.
Satan is the temporary ruler of our world. One day, Jesus will return to defeat Satan and send him to hell forever. Until that day, Satan tries his best to get people to turn away from God and to fill this world with as many sins and hard things as possible. This makes God very sad, but God is allowing this for a little while so that more people can hear the story of Jesus and place their faith in Him so they can be forgiven for all their sins.
Even though God wants to forgive our sins, we do not deserve this forgiveness. We also do not deserve the many good things God gives us every day. These are God’s blessings, showing us how much God loves us and how merciful He is towards us!
Bible Truth
"You used to live as sinners when you followed the ways of this world. You served the one [Satan] who rules over the spiritual forces of evil. He [Satan] is the spirit who is now at work in those who don’t obey God…But God loves us deeply. He is full of mercy. He gave us new life because of what Christ has done. He gave us life even when we were dead in sin. God’s grace has saved you" (Ephesians 2:2, 4-5).
"The Lord is not slow to keep his promise. He is not slow in the way some people understand it. Instead, he is patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. Instead, he wants all people to turn away from their sins" (2 Peter 3:9).
