If lying is a sin, why did some people in the Bible tell lies?
Here's the answer:
Just because other people lie doesn't make lying right.
In some Bible stories, people told lies, but God never says that they did the right thing. God says we should always tell the truth, like He does. Even though the people who told lies in the Bible didn't always get in trouble, God knew the wrong things they did, just like He knows all of the wrong things we do. If you're honest, your friends and family can trust you. Most of all, telling the truth pleases God.
Bible Truth
"Then keep your tongues from speaking evil. Keep your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil, and do good. Look for peace, and go after it" (Psalm 34:13-14).
"Don't lie to each other. You have gotten rid of your old way of life and its habits" (Colossians 3:9).
"So each of you must get rid of your lying. Speak the truth to your neighbor. We are all parts of one body" (Ephesians 4:25).
