How long ago were Bible times?
Here's the answer:
The Bible covers a long period of time from the creation of the world until about 2,000 years ago.
The Bible begins with the creation of the universe. However, the first books of the Bible were written about 3,400 years ago, around 1400 BC About 40 different people helped write the books of the Bible in three different languages (Hebrew and Aramaic for the Old Testament; Greek for the New Testament).
The Old Testament was written between about 1400 BC and 400 BC Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible during the 40 years after the Jews left Egypt to the time the Jews entered the Promised Land. David and his son Solomon lived about 1000 BC when many Bible books were written. The last books were finished around the time of Ezra the priest and Malachi the prophet.
The New Testament covers a much shorter period. Its 27 books were all written in the first century AD. The information in the books cover from the time of John the Baptist (around 5 BC) and the book of Revelation (around 95 AD). In other words, everything took place within about 100 years, ending about 2,000 years ago.
The Bible ends with a warning not to add or take away from it, so there will be no more new books added to the Bible (Revelation 22:18). The Bible is a very old book, but is filled with information that can help you today (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Bible Truth
"God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
"I am warning everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. Suppose someone adds anything to them. Then God will add to that person the plagues told about in this book" (Revelation 22:18).
