Did Jesus really tell a storm to be quiet?
Here's the answer:
Jesus really told a storm to calm down.
After a long day of ministering, Jesus was tired. In order to get some rest from the crowds, Jesus and the disciples traveled over to the other side (Mark 4:35-36). While they were traveling, a huge storm broke out. The disciples were terrified. Are you scared of storms? The disciples were very scared!
While the disciples were afraid and panicking, Jesus was fast asleep (Luke 8:23). That is how tired Jesus was. He slept through a major storm! The disciples woke Jesus up because they were scared they were going to die (Luke 8:24). As soon as Jesus woke up, he commanded the storm to be still and the storm stopped.
This showed the disciples that Jesus is God. Only God has control over storms. After Jesus calmed the storm, He asked His disciples why they had so little faith (Mark 4:40). The same is true for us today. We don’t need to be afraid of anything. We just need to have trust and faith in Jesus. He will always calm our storms.
Bible Truth
"Suddenly a terrible storm came up on the lake. The waves crashed over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping" (Matthew 8:24).
"'The disciples went and woke Jesus up. They said, “Master! Master! We’re going to drown!' He got up and ordered the wind and the huge waves to stop. The storm quieted down. It was completely calm" (Luke 8:24).
"'Where is your faith?’ he asked his disciples. They were amazed and full of fear. They asked one another, 'Who is this? He commands even the winds and the waves, and they obey him'" (Luke 8:25).
