Do Christians sin?

Here's the answer:

Christians are not perfect, and they still sin.

The moment we become a Christian, God forgives all of our sins. We’re adopted into His family and He becomes our Heavenly Father. Our sins, all the wrong things we have ever done or will do in the future, are forgiven because of what Jesus did for us on the cross by dying and then coming back to life three days later (Ephesians 1:7). Our sins don't separate us from God like they did before, because Jesus took the penalty that we deserved (death), so that we can live forever with God in heaven.

However, becoming a Christian doesn't mean we will never sin again. We will still sin while we are living on earth; that's part of being human. And even though our sins no longer keep us from going to heaven, they do come between us and God, making it hard to feel close to Him.

Imagine if your dad told you not to do something, but you did it anyway. You would probably try to avoid him or hide from him afterward. Things wouldn’t be right between the two of you until you told him what you had done. When we sin, we can tell that something is wrong in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. When that happens, we don't need to ask God to forgive our sin, because He already has. But it's important to confess our sin to Him as soon as possible by telling Him that we know we did wrong, and that we are sorry and don't want to disobey Him. He will always respond to us with love and mercy! Psalm 145:8 says, "The LORD is gracious. He is kind and tender. He is slow to get angry. He is full of love."

The longer we know God and the more time we spend with Him by praying and reading the Bible, the easier it gets to obey Him. His Spirit also helps us to obey. “So I say, live by the Holy Spirit’s power. Then you will not do what your sinful nature wants you to do” (Galatians 5:16). What a great promise! And one day we will be with Him in heaven, completely free from sin. Now that’s something wonderful to look forward to!

Bible Truth

"Suppose we claim we are without sin. Then we are fooling ourselves. The truth is not in us. But God is faithful and fair. If we admit that we have sinned, he will forgive us our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure" (1 John 1:8–9).

"Christ didn’t have any sin. But God made him become sin for us. So we can be made right with God because of what Christ has done for us" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
