Is it okay to go to a concert with my friends?

Here's the answer:

Concerts are not necessarily bad; it depends on which artist or group is playing, and what your parents have said about it.

First of all, if your parents have said that you cannot go to a particular concert (or even listen to a certain artist’s music), you have to respect that rule no matter what anyone else says. Ephesians 6:1 says to "...obey your parents as believers in the Lord. Obey them because it’s the right thing to do." That's pretty clear!

There are some great Christian musicians whose music honors God, and as long as you have your parents’ permission, attending this type of concert can be great fun, encouraging you in your faith and helping you worship God at the same time! There are even some non-Christian musicians whose music is clean and positive, and attending their concerts could be okay &mdash where you'll need to trust God and your parents to guide you. But many artists sing songs about things that would pull us away from God and what He says in His Word, the Bible, and those are artists you clearly want to avoid listening to.

If you’re wondering whether or not you should be listening to a certain type of music or supporting a certain musician by attending their concert, take this advice: "Don’t worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him. Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds. He will do this because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood" (Philippians 4:6-7).

God cares about what happens to us; He cares about what we put into our minds. He also wants us to give all of our worries and concerns to Him (1 Peter 5:7), and trust Him to show us the right thing to do. After all, He knows us best and everything He tells us to do is for our good!

"Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things" (Philippians 4:8).

"Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect" (Romans 12:2).
