What should I look for in a good role model?
Here's the answer:
A good role model should be someone who follows Jesus and seeks to live like Him.
When you are growing up, role models are important and you need to choose your role models carefully. Proverbs 13:20 says, "Walk with wise people and become wise. A companion of foolish people suffers harm."
If your parents love Jesus, they may be a great choice to be a role model. Your teacher may also be a great role model. Consider the pastor of your church. He wants you to do the right thing and grow to become more like Jesus.
While these role models are good, our perfect role model is Jesus. As you study Him, you will see that He was kind, faithful, honest, and always made good decisions.
When you are choosing a role model, ask yourself if the person tries to be like Jesus. Are they kind, caring, and helpful? Or are they mean, irritable, and angry? Ask yourself if you can see the fruit of the Spirit in their life. Jesus can help you pick out your role model if you pray and ask Him for help. Above all else, follow Jesus’ example. He is the perfect role model.
"My son, listen to your father’s advice. Don’t turn away from your mother’s teaching" (Proverbs 1:8).
"You were chosen to do good even if you suffer. That’s because Christ suffered for you. He left you an example that he expects you to follow" (1 Peter 2:21).
"Follow my example, just as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1).
