Is it wrong to have pictures of Jesus?
Here's the answer:
It’s okay to have pictures of Jesus as long as you don’t worship them.
It's important to remember that no one actually knows what Jesus looked like when He was on earth. The people who wrote the parts of the New Testament that talk about Jesus didn’t describe how He looked. So any pictures of Jesus are simply someone’s guess as to what Jesus looked like.
The Bible tells us that we aren’t supposed to have any idols, which are objects that we worship instead of God. If we worship a picture of Jesus, we’re making that picture into an idol. We need to save all our worship for Jesus Himself. There’s nothing wrong, though, with looking at and enjoying a picture someone drew of how they think Jesus looked.
There are a lot of things we do know about Jesus, even if we don’t know what He looked like. Jesus is the good shepherd (John 10:11); the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and He is God (Matthew 1:23). He died on the cross for our sins and rose again. The things we know about Jesus are much more beautiful than any picture!
Bible Truth
"The Son is the exact likeness of God, who can’t be seen. The Son is first, and he is over all creation" (Colossians 1:15).
