What kind of music should I listen to?
Here's the answer:
Listen to music that’s pleasing to God.
God has really given us many great things to explore and enjoy in life. One of these gifts is music. There are so many types of music out there that can appeal to so many different tastes. God’s people have been using music for thousands of years to praise and worship Him.
Music is a melody or a tune. It may have harmonies and accompanying instruments, but it’s basically a memorable tune that we can remember and, in some cases, sing along with.
For a Christian, the Bible tells us that we must be careful what we say and think about. So it makes sense that we should also be careful about the music we listen to and sing. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things."
God wants us to be pure and holy like He is, so we must be careful that we don’t listen to things that might be a bad influence on us. There is a lot of great Christian music out there that glorifies God and helps us to think of good things and not bad things.
We don’t always have to listen to Christian music, but we should not listen to music that has unholy lyrics, swearing, or anything else ungodly. When we follow those rules, then we can pretty much enjoy the gift of music to the full.
