How come some men in the Bible had multiple wives?
Here's the answer:
Men with multiple wives were not God’s idea.
God made Adam and Eve. They were married as an example for others (Genesis 2:24). God did not design men to be married to a lot of women, but sometimes men did it anyway.
The highest number of wives any man had in the Bible was 700! King Solomon was so rich that he could do anything he wanted. But God did not approve of his actions. 1 Kings 11:9 says, "The LORD became angry with Solomon. That’s because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel..."
Just because the Bible says something does not always mean the Bible approves of it. Sometimes God gives us examples of wrong things so we will learn to do what is right. God wants us to live according to His ways. If you get married when you grow up, you want to marry one person and love them for the rest of your life (Ephesians 5:33).
Bible Truth
"...A man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. The two will become one" (Matthew 19:5).
"A husband also must love his wife. He must love her just as he loves himself. And a wife must respect her husband" (Ephesians 5:33).
