Can I pray for certain toys and other things I really want?
Here's the answer:
You can talk to God about anything and trust He knows what is best for us.
The Bible says we can pray about everything, even things we want. However, remember that praying for something doesn’t mean we will get whatever we want. God knows whether it is best that we have that toy or if it is better for us to be without it.
It is also good to think about our motives, or why we want the new toy. Does the toy help us in some way, does it honor God, and will it help us serve others?
God also says that toys and other things will not bring us joy. For example, if we get that new toy, we’re not going to be happy forever. The happiness will fade. God wants us to be content with what we have.
Can we ask God for things we don’t really need? God asks us to come to Him with all our concerns. He doesn’t want us to treat Him like Santa though, asking for a long list of things every time we pray. We can be honest and tell God about what we want and we can understand that He knows what is best for us.
Ask God for things that bring Him glory. We can trust God to help us know what it best because he is all-knowing and wise.
Bible Truth
"I know what it’s like not to have what I need. I also know what it’s like to have more than I need. I have learned the secret of being content no matter what happens. I am content whether I am well fed or hungry. I am content whether I have more than enough or not enough. I can do all this by the power of Christ. He gives me strength" (Philippians 4:12-13).
"Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Give thanks no matter what happens. God wants you to thank him because you believe in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
