Is rock music bad?

Some rock music is okay and some is not.
Rock music can be very loud and powerful. But often the problem is not so much with the music itself—it’s more about the lyrics (the words in the song) and the lifestyle of the band playing the music.
Rock music lyrics are sometimes aggressive, offensive, and full of anger. Some songs can even influence the listener to do wrong things like breaking the law. Many talk about drugs and drinking, and have adult themes that are not appropriate for kids. These things are usually a part of the life of the rock star too.
It’s always better to stay away from saying bad stuff about others. And if you’re with friends who are talking about using drugs or stealing things, or if they were swearing, you would probably know to get up and leave. It’s the same thing when we listen to music. We might enjoy the music itself, but if the message of the song is wrong then we should stop listening.
If you want to listen to music, why not choose positive and encouraging music that praises God? Singing is a natural way to express our emotions, and the Bible is filled with stories of musicians and singers. In fact, we are called to praise and sing to God. There are many great Christian bands out there with lots of different styles like rock, country, and pop. So you can enjoy the music and the lyrics at the same time!
Whatever we listen to, in music or conversation, ask yourself, "What would Mom or Dad think of this song?" And even more important: "What would God think of this song?"
