Is it okay to want to be rich and famous?
Here's the answer:
Money and fame is not bad, but we need to always put God first.
Wanting to be rich and famous is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a bad thing if we have the wrong motives. If we want to be rich and famous in order to be popular and have more power then it is a problem. If wanting to be rich and famous is the primary goal of our life, it is sinful. Our primary goal in life should always be to follow God.
Whenever anything comes before God, it becomes an idol in our life. Money is one of the main things that people set up as an idol. The love of money is the root of all evil and can cause us to go down many dark paths (1 Timothy 6:10). Rather than desiring to be rich and famous for wrong motives, we need to think about how we can better serve God. If we can serve God better through our money, then that is a good thing.
There are many famous and wealthy people in the Bible, but they did not use their fame or wealth for evil. Jesus Himself is the most well-known man in all of history. He was not wealthy, but He is certainly famous. Jesus is not famous because of evil, taking advantage of people, or doing anything wrong. Instead, He is famous for the love and kindness He extended to us by dying for the bad things we have done. Being rich and famous doesn’t have to be sinful, but what is most important is our heart's motive.
Bible Truth
"Don’t wear yourself out to get rich. Don’t trust how wise you think you are" (Proverbs 23:4).
"People who want to get rich are tempted. They fall into a trap. They are tripped up by wanting many foolish and harmful things. Those who live like that are dragged down by what they do. They are destroyed and die" (1 Timothy 6:9).
