What is love?
Here's the answer:
Many people think that love is a feeling, but the Bible says love is more than that.
The Bible says in 1 John 4:8 that "God is love." Love comes from God. It is at the center of who He is. When we show love to others, we treat them in a way that honors God. This can be hard for us to understand so the Bible explains to us what love looks like. It says in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 that: "Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It does not dishonor other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs. Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. Love never fails."
We like to think that love is a feeling we have when two people "fall in love." But love is actually a characteristic of God which is supposed to guide how we are to treat one another. We can choose to show love to other people even if we do not like them.
God showed us how much He loves us when He sent His own son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus loved us so much that He died in our place. Love is a hard thing to understand completely, but Christians should always try to live a life full of love so that others can see God`s love in us.
Bible Truth
"Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become a child of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love" (1 John 4:7-8).
"Here is what love is. It is not that we loved God. It is that he loved us and sent his Son to give his life to pay for our sins" (1 John 4:10).
