Why do we pray for God to help us not be bad?
Here's the answer:
We need God’s help to make good choices.
God wants to help us overcome temptation. He wants us to do good things instead of bad. Do you know about The Lord’s Prayer? The disciples asked Jesus how to pray, so Jesus gave them a good example. In His prayer, Jesus said, "Keep us from sinning when we are tempted..." (Matthew 6:13). That is what we’re asking when we pray for God to help us be good and not bad. God wants to help us so He is pleased when we ask for His help.
We have to do more than simply pray for God to help us though. God wants us to avoid temptations as much as we can. And when we are tempted, He wants us to say no to sin and yes to Him.
Bible Truth
"You are tempted in the same way all other human beings are. God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted any more than you can take. But when you are tempted, God will give you a way out. Then you will be able to deal with it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
"Run away from the evil things that young people long for. Try hard to do what is right. Have faith, love and peace. Do these things together with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart" (2 Timothy 2:22).
